A Message from Nurse Waddy
Keeping our Field Students Healthy...

Welcome to another great school year! I would like to take this time to introduce myself as the school nurse here at Field Elementary. My name is Shay Roberts, and I am primarily known as Nurse Waddy. I have been an RN since 2011 and a school nurse since 2013, with a hospital background in Pediatrics. This is my eighth school year at Field Elementary, and I feel truly honored to be a part of such a wonderful and caring community. I’m very passionate about school nursing, and my goal here is to keep our students healthy, safe, and in school, so they can learn effectively.

As we transition into this beautiful Fall season, we should remember that communicable illnesses such as the flu, common cold, and strep throat will be more prevalent. Due to our students being in group settings and close contact most of their day, the transmission of illnesses from person to person can occur. It is especially important to use good hygiene practices to reduce the spread of germs, such as:

  • observing your child each day for signs of illness which may include coughing, sore throat, fever, unusual rashes
  • keeping sick students at home and seeking medical attention
  • encouraging your child to wash their hands often, especially after using the restroom, before eating, and when they are visibly soiled
  • Use an alcohol-based hand cleaner when soap and water are not available
  • Adopting healthy practices, such as disposing of used tissues and coughing into a sleeve rather than into a hand, drinking plenty of fluids, eating nutritious food, being physically active, and getting plenty of sleep

If you need to discuss the health of your child or have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me! I am available on Class Dojo as well.

HISPANIC HERITAGE MONTH IS HERE!

Happy Hispanic heritage month to all! Hispanic Heritage Month is a month dedicated to celebrating diverse Hispanic communities that make-up our country! From September 15 - October 15, Hispanic Heritage month celebrates cultures from Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Equatorial Guinea, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Puerto Rico, Spain, Uruguay, and Venezuela. The diverse Field community is further enriched by the Hispanic families that make up our school!

Field Elementary Ofrenda

In partnership with Field leadership and Field families, a Field community ofrenda will be displayed beginning next week for all to see.

An ofrenda, or altar, is one of the most focal points in Mexican Mesoamerican cultural traditions and is set up during the quintessential day of the dead. From October 31st to November 2nd, the ofrenda is set up with offerings to honor and remember loved ones. In modern-day observation, communities observe and appreciate the beauty of life.  Field families are encouraged to send framed pictures of their loved ones or pets complete with a name, class, and grade by or before Friday, October 14 to be included in the ofrenda. To learn more about the ofrenda and the day of the Dead visit https://dayofthedead.holiday

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

The PTO could not do all of the amazing things it does without the dedicated group of volunteers who are so generous with their time and efforts. Involvement with the PTO is a wonderful way to get to know the school, staff, students, and other parents.

There are many different ways to get involved. We encourage you to learn more about the events and activities that the PTO sponsors and volunteer where you can.

Please note that all volunteers who will be working with students on campus or on field trips need to be registered through the school district’s Volunteers in Public Schools program, or VIPS. VIPS requires all volunteers to register annually. For more information, click here.

HOST A SIGN UP PARTY!

CALLING ALL HOSTS AND HOSTESSES!!! The Reach for the Stars Auction & Fundraiser needs your help! HOST A SIGN UP PARTY!

Looking for a fun-filled activity for the kids? A much deserved adult-night out (or in!)? Think about hosting a sign up party!

What is a sign up party? A social event put on by a small-ish group (depending on the event/location) with a fun or unique activity or theme, that helps raise money for Field Elementary, as a part of the Reach for the Stars Auction & Fundraiser. Think Mom's (or Dad's) Night Out, grade level party, cooking class, movie night, game night, pool party, etc.

If you have an idea for a party/need an idea for one or want to host but need a co-host, contact our VP of Programs at fieldespto.vp@gmail.com

Host a sign up party!
Volunteer Swap with Hogg & Helms

Thank you to our neighboring schools - Helms Elementary, Hogg Middle School and Garden Oaks Montessori for stepping in to volunteer at our Auction and Fundraiser! We appreciate our Heights community for their assistance and support so that our Field Lion families can enjoy a night of music, dancing, food and of course the Auction!

Field families, we'd like to offer that same support to our neighboring schools! There are upcoming opportunities to volunteer at Hogg and Helms this month. Visit here to sign up or reach out to our Volunteer Chair at fieldespto.volunteer@gmail.com

Field of Dreamers Garden Club

Just in time for cooler weather, we are kicking off our Field of Dreamers Garden Club for our second season!

This amazing program, is run by parent volunteers who donate 20 minutes of their time every Thursday.

In this small amount of time students connect with the Earth, plant a thing or two, learn where their food comes from, sample fresh herbs or lettuce depending on what's growing, get a little dirty and explore the wonders of nature. So much goes on in those 7 beds at the front - you would be amazed!🐛 We also want to bring the students to the Butterfly Garden that was built and funded by grants and parent volunteers last year. The Butterfly Garden is located outside the PE room.

If you have 20 minutes to donate please let us know. You may reach Ebony Porter at campfirequilts@gmail.com . More information can be found here
