Heart of Community

Field Elementary School signifies different things to every one of us. For our children, Field is the place they come to grow not just academically but socially and emotionally for 8 hours a day, 5 days a week, and for close to 10 months during every school year. For us parents/caregivers, Field is one of a series of foundational stops along the way, on our children’s long path to becoming fully functioning members of society. For our teachers and staff, Field is their livelihood, their passion, years of dedication, and the place where they continue to hone their craft. To prospective parents, Field is a Blue Ribbon highly rated school tucked in the Heights neighborhood. To others, Field is a list of demographic data with precise percentages for race, ethnicity, age, socio economic status, etc.

Yet, who are we as a Field Elementary school Community?

The answer to that question may lie in our ability to slow down, amidst the bustling and hectic rhythm of life, and see all around us.  As a community, we are a reservoir of cultures, histories, legacies, talent, potential and value. Every opportunity we get to spend time with one another, is a chance to find out who we are as Field. Taste of Field was created with that in mind.

On my 6th year as a parent here at Field Elementary School, I have been blessed to see up close the vast cultural richness of our entire community… a reservoir of talent and potential waiting to be tapped and be fully celebrated. We must see it in others and within ourselves.

This year, as a proud member of the PTO team, my goal has been to continue to foster and foment community involvement. We can’t put price on the sense of fellowship, ownership and belonging that is derived from the experience of making and breaking bread together and sharing part of who we are with one another. Our children are watching and learning from all of us. They say, “it takes a village to raise a child”.  We are their village!

Hope you can join us on Friday April 14th!

Lion's Pride Fun Run

It was FUN, and now it's DONE! Fun Run 2023 was a smashing success! We sincerely hope you and your children had as much fun as we did! This year we were able to raise a TOTAL of $36,980, and our vision of having a safe, beautiful, and enriching play structure for our children is finally within reach! We are officially on track to have the new structure in place! Stay tuned for updates as our project progresses, with a projected completion date of fall 2023! It's exciting to be a part of a small but mighty community coming together to make a huge impact with something that will last many years to come!

We continue to learn & grow with every event, and we hope these activities show our little Lions the power of community, friendship, hard work, and FUN and leave lasting impressions on them as they grow.

The Fundraising Committee would like to thank everyone who participated, donated, volunteered and helped spread the word. We would also like to send special shout-outs to Mr. Z for being so engaging with the students and teachers and always lending a helping hand wherever needed, Mrs. Franklin for her electric energy and pitch-perfect hype voice, Emily Weems for providing invaluable experience and assistance the whole way through, our WONDERFUL teachers for making the teacher involvement SO MUCH FUN and a final HUGE shout out to Principal Karr for all the support and for giving us the best incentive to work toward!

We will be finalizing and sharing his debut performance as a Principal Ice Cream Sundae SOON!

Arts Career Day

Field Elementary participated in its first annual Arts Career Day, where students were inspired by professional artists throughout the community.

The event took place on campus under the outdoor pavilion and consisted of over 10 local artists sharing their knowledge with Field students about the various ways to have a professional career in the arts. Students explored artistic elements through photography, sculptures, music, interior design, visual art, dance, and theatre. Some additional highlights included a space themed art car on campus and an extra large ice sculpture shaped like a cowboy boot. Grades K-5 visited the event during their ancillary period and participated in creative activities such as creating visual art, playing percussion instruments, designing restaurants, taking professional photographs, tap dancing and smashing ice sculptures!

Special thank you to the artists, volunteers, teachers, staff, and Principal Karr for supporting Arts Career Day. We're looking forward to celebrating the arts again next year!

Crossing Guard Appreciation Day

March 24th marked out first Field Elementary Crossing Guard Appreciation Day and we honored our Field Crossing Guards, Mr. Earl and Ms. Martinez!

Thank you Mr. Earl and Ms. Martinez for working tirelessly (rain or shine) to ensure the safety of Field students arriving to and departing from school!

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

The PTO could not do all of the amazing things it does without the dedicated group of volunteers who are so generous with their time and efforts. Involvement with the PTO is a wonderful way to get to know the school, staff, students, and other parents.

There are many different ways to get involved. We encourage you to learn more about the events and activities that the PTO sponsors and volunteer where you can.

Please note that all volunteers who will be working with students on campus or on field trips need to be registered through the school district’s Volunteers in Public Schools program, or VIPS. VIPS requires all volunteers to register annually. For more information, click here.

Taste of Field 2023

It's almost time for our second annual Taste of Field Community Event! We have some exciting things in store and can't wait to share with our Field family and Heights Community!

If you can help/participate we would love to have you! We will need volunteers both before the event and at the event! Please sign up here to volunteer!

Field of Dreamers Garden Club

This year, we kicked off our Field of Dreamers Garden Club for our second season!

This amazing program, is run by parent volunteers who donate 20 minutes of their time every Thursday.

In this small amount of time students connect with the Earth, plant a thing or two, learn where their food comes from, sample fresh herbs or lettuce depending on what's growing, get a little dirty and explore the wonders of nature. So much goes on in those 7 beds at the front - you would be amazed!🐛 We also want to bring the students to the Butterfly Garden that was built and funded by grants and parent volunteers last year. The Butterfly Garden is located outside the PE room.

If you have 20 minutes to donate please let us know. You may reach Ebony Porter at campfirequilts@gmail.com . More information can be found here
