A note from our Auction Chair!

Wow, Field Lion Families, We are absolutely blown away at the success of the auction this year. On behalf of the entire auction committee, we would like to extend our most heartfelt THANK YOU for your support. Together we raised an incredible $85,000! None of it would be possible without the support, time, ideas, financial contributions, attendance and encouragement of our wonderful Field community. Beyond the significant funds raised for our school, the auction provided an invaluable opportunity to connect with families we might not have otherwise had the chance to know. We sure have some fun, stylish, dancing machines at Field! And you know how to make a big impact on our community.

Perhaps our biggest show of gratitude needs to go to the teachers and staff. Your commitment to caring for and educating our children is what motivates us. We loved seeing so many of you there celebrating with everyone!

We are excited to see the funds raised go towards improving our campus and enriching the educational experience. Appointments have already been set to get the ball rolling and we look forward to sharing those details with you very soon. We invite you to join us at next week's virtual General PTO Meeting!

We’re so proud to be a part of Field Elementary.

- Maygan Close, Field PTO Auction Chair

A Message from our Diversity Chair

February is Black History Month!

Black History Month is an annual celebration of the achievements of African Americans and a time for recognizing their central role in the history of the United States. It honors all Black people from all periods of U.S. history, from the enslaved people first brought over from Africa in the early 17th century to African Americans living in the United States today.

Drop by our display in the lobby and see if you know can identify some of the notable people on the poster. Browse the books to get ideas for your next reading time with the kids.

Extra: Mrs. Franklin also has a bulletin board with famous musicians and artists down the hall.

We are also celebrating the Lunar New Year from February 10 to 24. Did you know that 2024 is the year of the Dragon? Do you know what your Chinese zodiac is? Why do we celebrate Lunar New Year? Why is there so much red? And what do all the decorations mean?

Check out our display on the bulletin board near the Admin office to find out.

One of the best things you can do this month is support a local Black-owned business. If you’re looking to eat, here are a few recommendations for some of Houston's favorite Black-owned restaurants. If you want to shop, check out this list of awesomely creative Black-owned shops around town. Additionally, click here for more information on the rescheduled MLK Parade.

Next Thursday we will have our Black History Month Program! This performance is for staff and students only, but we can’t wait to share photos and videos for you all! 🎶

Students are asked to wear their Black History Month attire or the colors red, green, yellow, or black.
- Mrs. Franklin

Lunar New Year marks an important start to the new year for many countries, including China, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, South Korea, and Vietnam. During festivities, Asian cultures honor their ancestors and celebrate with traditional ceremonies highlighting good luck, good fortune, and happiness. Each year a Chinese zodiac animal is featured that is said to bring its themes and characteristics for that year. For more information on this special holiday visit https://chinesenewyear.net/

Meet our new Wraparound Specialist, Mr. Lewis!

Hello Field families!

My name is Mr. Cameron Lewis, and I’m the newest Field Elementary School team member, serving as the dedicated Wraparound Specialist. Originally from New York, I am excited to bring my expertise to this role. With a Bachelor's degree from The University at Albany in Communications and a Master's degree in Social Work from The University of Massachusetts Global, my background encompasses community outreach, resource allocation, program management and development, cultural competence, and mental health. As a Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW), I am deeply invested in providing support to our students and families, prioritizing their holistic well-being, and fostering success within our school community.

Outside of work, I like exploring new destinations through travel, immersing myself in different cultures, and trying new places to eat. Football and basketball have always been a passion of mine, I enjoy mentoring young athletes and helping them reach their full potential. Additionally, I enjoy being by the water and catching all types of fish.

My commitment lies in supporting our students, families, and the school community by providing non-academic support and alleviating barriers that hinder a student's ability to learn. Together, let's cultivate an inclusive environment where every student can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.

Sincerely,

Cameron Lewis, LMSW

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

The PTO could not do all of the amazing things it does without the dedicated group of volunteers who are so generous with their time and efforts. Involvement with the PTO is a wonderful way to get to know the school, staff, students, and other parents.

There are many different ways to get involved. We encourage you to learn more about the events and activities that the PTO sponsors and volunteer where you can.

Please note that all volunteers who will be working with students on campus or on field trips need to be registered through the school district’s Volunteers in Public Schools program, or VIPS. VIPS requires all volunteers to register annually. For more information, click here.

Field of Dreamers Garden Club

We are excited to announce we are kicking off our Field of Dreamers Garden Club for our third season!

This amazing program, is run by parent volunteers who donate 25 minutes of their time every Tuesday and Wednesday. .

In this small amount of time students connect with the Earth, plant a thing or two, learn where their food comes from, sample fresh herbs or lettuce depending on what's growing, get a little dirty and explore the wonders of nature. So much goes on in those 7 beds at the front - you would be amazed! We also want to bring the students to the Butterfly Garden that was built and funded by grants and parent volunteers last year. The Butterfly Garden is located outside the PE room.

If you have 25 minutes to spare, please let us know. You may reach Ebony Porter at campfirequilts@gmail.com . More information can be found here
